Save Your Money TAG
Our prices are based upon the number of ink colors in a design (art) that is printed in each location. Each colour used in a design costs more to screen print. A one colour design is the cheapest compared to a 2, 3, or 4 colour design. The number of printing locations on a garment also increases the cost. The size of the design does not affect the price. A small left chest print costs the same to print as a large full size print. The total number of shirts makes a big difference in the price you are charged. The more shirts you order the cheaper the unit cost per printed tee. White or light colour garments are easier to print on because a white backer is not needed making it cheaper for the customer. Our Art prices are also charged based upon the number of colours in the design. The more colours used in the design the harder the art is to work with

SENDING ARTWORK

We understand that not everyone is a graphics wiz. Heck, if they were, we'd be out of a job. Because of this, we get a huge variety of files sent to us. Some of them - great, some of them - not so much.

The absolute best file to send us is a fully vectorized, fonts outlined Illustrator file. We understand that not everyone has this option, so we're here to work with what you do have. Below is a list of file options, in order of preference:

ILLUSTRATOR (.ai/.eps) - Since screen printed tshirts are printed with spot colors, this is the best file type to send. Be sure you have outlined your fonts (or at least provide them to us). We're updated to CS2 (CS3 coming soon).

PHOTOSHOP (.psd/.tif) - Please keep each colour on it's own layer whenever possible. Also be sure to provide or rasterize all fonts used in the file. The ultimate size is 300dpi at actual print size. For instance, if you want your shirt design to be 8"x8" - the file should be 8"x8" @ 300dpi... NOT 8"x8"@72dpi and NOT 1"x1"@300dpi. To check this - go under [IMAGE]-[IMAGE SIZE]- and look at the document size in the popup window.

JPG/.GIF - We tend to get a lot of .jpgs from customers. One thing to keep in mind is the size of the file. Just like a Photoshop file, this file needs to be large enough and clean enough to work with. If you got the image off the Internet - it's probably going to be pretty small. (tip: when "Googling" images - keep the "image size" tab on "Large or Extra Large Images" to be safe). Look at the image and see if the colours are distinctively separate - (i.e. where one colour meets another - is it crisp or kind of blurry, blotchy or jaggedy). If we have to re-draw the image and it takes us more than 15 minutes, a fee of $50/hr may apply (tallied in :30 minute increments).

PEN/PAPER - Old school way! Hey, it's still higher in the list than.....

M.S. WORD - Ugh! Well, if this is all you got, we can usually work with it. Please provide any fonts you may have used.

M.S. PAINT - We're not sure why this program even still exists in this millennium. Any file in this format will no doubt have to be redrawn
($60/hr - :30 minute increments)

We can't stress enough how important it is for you to provide us with the fonts used in your design (or at least have them no longer "live"). Though we have over 5000 fonts in our collection, we, invariably, never seem to have the one you have chosen.

Also note that for screen printing, each design must be no more than 6 colours. Sometimes we can "cheat" this using half tones, which are small dots of varying thicknesses and spacing to give the illusion of a new color. Think of old comic books or a Roy Lichtenstein painting.

It will be assumed that any artwork you submit is being used in full compliance with all applicable laws regarding it's usage. You will agree to assume any liability resulting from claims against Fresh Ink for service marks, infringements of trademarks, copyrights, patents and personal rights.

FAQ TAG

How does pricing work?

Pricing for screen printing is based on 3 variables.

The number of colours in the print
The number of prints on the tee i.e. Front only or front and back etc
The number of garments to be printed

So to give you a solid price we need to know these three variables. We will always advise you on how you can reduce your costs by adjusting these variables.

Why do more colours cost more?
The way screen printing works we have to set a screen up for every colour in every print. The more screens the higher the set up costs. It also takes longer to print 4 colours as we need to make 4 separate print passes on each tee.

What t-shirts do you use?
Here is a list of the suppliers we can source from. Click to see there online catalogues…

Gildan - Premium Quality, Basic range. Great Price vs Quality
American Apparel - Premium Quality and Style, Made in USA, Massive Range

Do you only print t-shirts?
No. We do a large range of textile screen printing Golf Shirts, Hoodies, Canvas Bags etc.

What is the maximum amount of colours you can print?
We can print up to 6 spot colours

Where are you based?
We are based in London, Ontario, Canada but we do ship orders all over via Canada post.

How long will my job take?
Our standard turnaround is 7 to 14 working days but somtimes this my be exceeded depending on how much work we have.

What file type do you need for the artwork?
For the majority of “spot colour” work we require a vector image file created in a program like Adobe Illustratoror Corel Draw. They will have file extensions such as .AI, .EPS, .PDF, .CDR
Note that not all files that have these file extensions are necessarily vector image files. For example you can save a bitmap file as nearly all these file types. The file has to be created from scratch in the programs above.

Is there a minimum order?
We have a minimum of 12 prints although if the print is the same this can be split between diffrent garments.

Can I supply my own tees?
Yes you can supply your own tees. But often times it is a lot more cost effective for us to supply them for you. We have great relationships with our suppliers we are able to provide you with low wholesale pricing. We can also supply you with a huge range of styles…whatever you want we can do our best to source it for you.

Can you design the logo we want printed?
Yes, We can try to create the look you are after. From a t-shirt design to a complete corporate image we can give your business, band or organization a professional look. Our rates are $60 per hour

What is the difference between a bitmap and a vector file?
Bitmaps (also called "raster") are made up of pixels, while vector images are composed of mathematical formulas that consist of curves and points. As such, they can be resized at will without losing quality. Making a bitmap larger makes the pixels larger too and the result can be blurry and jagged. Photos are bitmap images, and so are file formats like bmp, jpg, and psd.
Vector images have crisp lines and can be resized as big as a house without losing any image quality. Vector images are created in programs like Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand and Corel Draw.

Why do you require vector images?
Vector images are made out of lines and shapes. This helps us when we need to separate colours. Each shape that has the same colour is separated from the image. This can’t effectively be done with a bitmap image when printing with spot colours.

What does “convert fonts to outlines” or “embed fonts” mean?
Fonts aren’t automatically transferred with a vector file when it is created in a program like Adobe Illustrator. When using fonts in the program, the text is linked to a font file located on your computer. If that text is not converted to shapes or outlines or “embedded”, in the program, when you send that file to us if we don’t have the font installed on our computer the font you have used will be substituted for a different font that is installed on our system.
To get around this you need to convert fonts to outlines or embed the fonts. To do this in Adobe Illustrator you can right click on the text and choose “Create Outlines” alternatively if you go to Type>Create Outlines or finally you can use the hotkeys Shift+Ctrl+O. This will convert all you type to shapes and it will transport within your file.
